Just when I thought it was bad….
January 3, 2010
Hey guys. I’ve just about had it right now and heres why.
I settled in last night for a cold air OC session with my usual setup. Popped open the window and began to OC. Halfway through bootup my comp simply shut down. I determined the problem to be my motherboard (MA790FXT-UD5P) , it seemed to have flaked out and died. I figured I’d put it through enough and it had had it’s time.
Not to worry, I have another of the exact same motherboard in my bros computer, so I figure I will take that and replace his with a cheaper alternative. So I toss that in my system. The board was working, but I was having boot issues. I eventually found out that the incident from the night before where my first board died also decided to take out one of my ram sticks. At this point I was starting to get upset.
So today I get a brand new Phenom II C3 rev and toss it in my motherboard with the one remaining ram stick. I play around with it a little and like the results I get. So once again, I decide to take it under cold air. This time however, I proactively insulated the board to ensure nothing would go wrong. First startup under cold air, it instantly turns off after about a second. I go to turn it back on again, however now I find that the motherboard does not respond to the power button. It seems I have managed to kill yet another motherboard.
I’m at wits end. I’ve had it. 2 Dead motherboards and a dead ram stick in 48 hours. I’m starting to think that I have the worst luck with hardware. Yes, doing any form of ocing in cold conditions is risking hardware, but I’ve seen hardware go through much worse and be fine.
I don’t even know what to do from here. Just felt I needed to share my frustration with you guys.
Upset and frustrated

[AMD/TR] Phenom II 965BE C3 Revision Review
November 3, 2009
Here are some fresh results/benchies from the new C3 revision of the 965BE. The testing was done by chew*. These look like they have a higher clock potential on all forms of cooling than the current chips. Check it out!
“The last time I did a major review, it was entitled “955 Unleashed”.
This time I would like to introduce AMD’s latest flagship processor, the C3 Revision 965 BE.
I made a few changes to the review method. Last time if you recall, I worked strictly in Windows XP, but this time I ran a multitude of benches in both XP and Vista.
I would like to take this time to thank AMD for giving me the oppurtunity once again to review and sample one of their latest and greatest CPU’s.
Special thanks also goes out to EnJoY and MSIMAX for taking time out of their schedules to come and bench with me.
That said let me cut the chit chat short and get to the results.

OCN Small Time OCing Competition – 1st Place In AMD X4 Air Class
October 20, 2009
Hey guys,
I recently won a small time benchmarking competition on OCN. Had tonnes of fun. You can check out the competition thread here.
I managed to pull off all my scores a few days before the deadline. I used my regular setup, but through it in the windowsill for some cooler air intake.
Here were the contest rules:
And So I left my submissions here:
AMD QUAD AIR/WATER Class
1M SuperPi: http://hwbot.org/result.do?resultId=909738
32M SuperPi: http://hwbot.org/result.do?resultId=909727
32M wPrime: http://hwbot.org/result.do?resultId=909728
1024M wPrime: http://hwbot.org/result.do?resultId=909729
Hexus PiFast: http://hwbot.org/result.do?resultId=910519
My scores fell into place. I couldn’t get a top score in PiFast as it is based solely on core frequency where my chip happens to fall short.
My prize
Fun little competition. Thanks to all of those that participated over at OCN. I look forward to a challenge in the future.

1M: 16 Seconds Broken W/ Cold Air
October 11, 2009
Finally, at last. The Canadian winter has helped settle my challenge to break 16 seconds on SuperPi 1M. Using the same chip and hardware as before, here is the result:

A little Cinebench while I was at it:

I also got a top validation of 4.452GHz. However, I used an outdated version of CPU-Z and it would not let me upload the validation.
The winter will only get colder from here. I’ll post back with anymore results/achievements.
Flash Forward – Epic New TV Series
September 27, 2009
This intriguing new series is for all of those just like me. If you like sci-fi, thrillers, mystery, and action flicks this one is for you.
The plot of the show depicts a worldwide blackout of human consciousness for exactly 2 minutes and 17 seconds in which every person on the planet has a “flash forward” 6 months into the future.
This is one of the few television shows that I actually look forward to, considering I don’t even watch much T.V. at all nowadays.
All I can say is that if you haven’t watched the first episode yet, do so. If you are in the U.S., you can watch the pilot episode here.
